MPEG and MP4 at a glance
MPEG
MPEG files hold MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video, the formats of Video CDs and DVDs. They come from older camcorders and DVD rips and are large for their quality.
MP4
MP4 is the most widely supported video format today. Phones record in it by default and almost every player and website accepts it.
Questions
About converting MPEG to MP4.
Will the MP4 be smaller than the MPEG file?
Usually yes. MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video need far more space for the same picture quality than the H.264 video in the MP4.
My MPEG file has several audio tracks. Which one do I get?
All of them. The MP4 file keeps every audio track with its language, and the track marked as default stays the default. Tracks that contain no sound are left out.
Do I need an account?
No. Up to 50 files a day work without an account, and the results have no watermark.
What happens to my files after the conversion?
Your files are processed on servers in the EU and deleted automatically after 24 hours.
